About
I’m a fantasy and scifi author, though I mostly stick to fantasy. I write both short stories and novels. I guess when it comes to writing (and reading) I like the “real” sort of fiction. I dig dragons, but not the cute kind that don’t eat anything. I like swords and sorcery, but only if they have meaning within character. I like action, but not at the cost of logic and plot.My influences have been Master Tolkien, George R. R. Martin, C. S. Friedman, Roger Zelazny, Fred Saberhagen, Glen Cook, and William Forstchen. See writing links for links to these authors. Some of my favorite books/series, in no particular order:
The person I think writes the most like I’d like to write is George Martin. His Song of Ice and Fire series is simply engrossing to me. The people are real, the world unique and immersive, the plot intriguing, the magic subtle but dangerous. The whole thing just rocks, and I hope I can achieve something like it someday. In my own way, of course. Another person I’d like to emulate is Tim Powers. I really like the combination of intrigue, fast pace, and just plain cool ideas for magic. I’ve only read Declare, The Anubis Gate and The Drawing of the Dark, but I thoroughly enjoyed all three. |
