Two New Anthologies, Two New Shattered Sands Stories

I’m pleased to report that I’ve been invited to participate in two (TWO!) new anthologies, both of which I’m very excited to be writing a story for.

The first is from the folks from Grimdark Magazine. It’s called Evil is a Matter of Perspective, which is currently being funded (and is almost over the top) via Kickstarter. Here’s the basic pitch:

The team at GRIMDARK MAGAZINE want to get fantasy authors into the shoes of their established antagonists and present you with 15+ dark fantasy stories in a beautiful print tome. We’ve engaged a range of fantasy authors with established worlds including R. Scott Bakker’s The Second Apocalypse, Courtney Schafer’s Shattered Sigil, Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Shadows of the Apt, Teresa Frohock’s Los Nefilim, Jeff Salyards’ Bloodsounder’s Arc, and many more.

Wrapped in Tommy Arnold‘s beautiful cover art, designed by crowd favourite Shawn King, and with a stretch goal to fill it with Jason Deem‘s interior art, Evil is a Matter of Perspective will be an eye-catching addition to your shelf once you’re done seeing the world through evil’s eyes.

The story I’m writing features Brama, the thief that you’ll meet in OF SAND AND MALICE MADE (due in September from DAW Books in North America and Gollancz in the UK). Here’s a Kickstarter update that includes a video from me about the story I’m writing. Basically it tells the tale of what happens to Brama (and Rümayesh) after OF SAND AND MALICE MADE closes. It’s a bit of a dark tale (in keeping with GdM’s and the anthology’s theme) but there might be one or two silver linings.

And check out the killer cover from artist Tommy Arnold and designer Shawn King!

Tommy Arnold is a relatively new artist to me. I had the pleasure of meeting him at GenCon in Indianapolis last year, but since then I’ve seen his stunning artwork all over the place. Really glad they tapped him to work on this project.

The second anthology is called HATH NO FURY, and it’s from the team at Ragnarok Publications. This story will also be funding via Kickstarter soon. Here’s the basic pitch, including the awesome news that Margaret Weis is going to be writing the introduction! How cool is that?

Ragnarok is pleased to announce a new anthology that will celebrate kick ass women of speculative fiction! Hath No Fury will be a collection of stories with characters in the spirit of Ellen Ripley from Alien, Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, Sarah Connor from Terminator, Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road, Brienne from Game of Thrones, and Eowen from The Lord of the Rings.

Editors Joe Martin and Melanie R. Meadors have brought together some of the finest authors out there, including Seanan McGuire, Carol Berg, Bradley Beaulieu, Delilah Dawson, Lian Hearn, Anton Strout, Gail Z. Martin, Elaine Cunningham, and more to share stories with smart, purpose-driven, and ultra-confident women behind the wheel. The introduction to this anthology will be written by none other than Margaret Weis, who has been a driving force in both fiction and games since the dawn of her career.

We can’t wait to share more details about this project with you! Stay tuned, and watch for our Kickstarter this summer!

For this anthology, I’ve written a story centering on the crowd favorite, Djaga, Çeda’s mentor in the fighting pits of Sharakhai. It shows a bit of her origin, how and why she left her homeland of Kundhun, and tells the tale of her final bout in the pits. It’s an emotional tale, hard punching, and I think you’re going to love it.

More on this when the Kickstarter goes live!

Cheers, Isaac. I’m done already with one story. Nearly done with the second. I’m really eager to see these finished products!

Any chance these anthologies will be made available through your store? For those of us that missed the kickstarters?

Hey Bob. I won’t have ebooks, but I’ll probably have a few author copies for sale at some point. If you ping me when they come out, I’d be happy to set one aside for you.
