The Flames of Shadam Khoreh hits Ranting Dragon’s Most Anticipated of 2013!
When I saw this, I had to do a double take. Flames is sitting at #17 in this top 50 list from The Ranting Dragon. Just look at some of the names in the top 15, though. Brandon Sanderson (three times!), Neil Gaiman, Peter Brett, Kevin Hearne, John Scalzi, Lev Grossman, Timothy Zahn, Chuck Wendig, plus relative newcomers who are making big splashes: Mark Lawrence, Myke Cole, and Doug Hulick. I’m very pleased to be sitting where I am in this list.
It’s a great list they’ve put together, and I’ve got my eye on many of them. Will I have the time to read them in 2013? Not all of them, but I’m very much looking forward to the following:
- River of Stars by Guy Gavriel Kay
- The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
- The Daylight War by Peter V. Brett
- The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes (which Greg and I will be reviewing on Speculate)
- Sworn in Steel by Douglas Hulick
- Emperor of Thorns by Mark Lawrence
Also, I like talking about covers. Will you look at how ridiculously cool Peter Brett’s Daylight War is? The addition of the dice was done a bit clumsily, but it’s a small thing in that gorgeous photo and overall design. There’s been a bit of a trend in YA fantasy with dead girls or faux dead girls, but I still like the Gaiman cover. And Kay’s is strong and ancient and goes very well with his previous novel, Under Heaven.
2013 is shaping up to be a great year!
