Starting a new novel…
Well, the novel has been in the works for a number of years in the back of my head. The first ideas for it started forming on a trip to the UK — Edinburgh in particular. My wife and I visited the National Galleries of Scotland, and I saw a number of paintings that really spoke to me. I bought postcards of those paintings to keep the inspiration alive and started to brainstorm when I had spare time. The story has taken several major twists over the time since then, but I think I've finally fleshed out the world, characters and plot enough that I'm ready to dive in. Here's the elevator pitch:
The Winds of Khalakovo is a tragic Russian fantasy set in a world of inhospitable islands and unforgiving seas. It details the life of a windship captain whose discovery of a child prodigy promises to heal the blight sweeping through the islands, if only the power of the Nine Dukes and their thirst for revenge can be held at bay long enough to do so.
