I just sold “How Peacefully the Desert Sleeps” to Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show. I'm excited about this sale for a number of reasons. I have some connections to the magazine. My story, “In the Eyes of the Empress's Cat” appeared in Issue 2. Plus, I attended OSC's Literary Bootcamp back in 2005. And “How Peacefully” was the first story I wrote after attending bootcamp. I feel like it's one of my strongest stories to date, one of those stories that becomes strong without really having to work hard at it. It didn't quite come fully formed, like my Writers of the Future story did, but it was pretty close. Other stories I've had to work my ass off to get it anywhere near publishable. I guess that's the way of these things. For probably a whole host of reasons, some are easy and some are muy difficulto (that's my sad sack Spanish for the day).
In other writing-related news, I found out that the Man vs. Machine anthology, which will have my story “Chasing Humanity,” will be out in July. I'm hoping I can get an early image of the cover, and if I do I'll post it here.
